You can use paper grocery bags or large sheets of paper from a paper supply store to make the paper hats for kids.  With a little creativity, you can make almost any style or shape hat.  This is a great craft for kids for dress up or pretend play.  You can make a great cowboy how for your Cowboy vest and Cowboy chaps and spurs

Paper Hat

Supplies for Paper Hats:

  • Paper Grocery Bags or large sheets of paper from a paper supply store
  • (Colored) tape
  • Scissors (if you use grocery bags)
  • Markers/Crayons/Colored Pencils

    To Make Paper Hats:

    Paper Hat cut open bag

    • Cut open bag and cut off bottom of bag so you have one large sheet of paper.
    • Use Markers/Crayons/Colored Pencils to decorate the paper bag
    • Have child cover eyes and place bag on head.  Mold bag to head and tape around head to hold in place. (It helps to have someone hold the paper while you tape it.)
    • While the bag is still on the child’s head, take ends of bag and start rolling up.  Shape the Hat as you roll it up.

By rolling you can shape the hat to different styles.  For example, you can roll it shorter on sides and longer on back and front to make a cowboy hat or shorter all around except front to make a baseball cap. Try also rolling a separate piece of paper in the shape of a feather and tape on side or back of the hat.
