You little cowboy will have fun making these Cowboy Chaps and Spurs out of Grocery Paper Bags.  Also, use our Cowboy Vest Paper Bag Craft and our Paper Bag Hat to complete the costume.

Supplies needed to make Paper Bag Cowboy Chaps and Spurs:

  • Large Grocery Paper Bag with Handles
  • 2 Bells
  • Scissors
  • Glue Dots or Glue
  • Yarn or String
  • Single Hole Punch
  • Decorations

Directions to make Paper Bag Cowboy Chaps and Spurs:

    • Take the two handles off of the Bag and set aside for the spurs
    • Decide how wide you want the chaps to be by measure across the front only of your child's waist.  We did 11 inches wide for the waist, 19 inches long, and the bottom of the bag we did 14 inches

    • Next, cut partially down the middle of the chaps to make the pant legs

    • Punch holes at either side of the waist and at either side of each leg just below the knees.  Then tie a piece of string or yarn to each hole.  You will use this to tie the chaps around your child's waist and tie each leg of the chaps around the legs

    • Decorate the chaps any way you want

To make the Cowboy Spurs:

    • Take the handles from the grocery bags and measure how big you need them by measuring around your child's ankle or cowboy boot and cut
    • Punch a hole in the middle of each of the two handles
    • Use the yarn to tie a bell to each of the holes

  • Punch a hole in each end of both the cowboy spurs and tie a piece of yarn to each hole.  You will use this yarn to tie each Spur onto you Child's ankle
  • Decorate as desired
